FKMCD and Florida Keys Healthy Start Coalition Pregnancy Registry
October 24, 2016, Monroe County – The Florida Keys Mosquito Control District (FKMCD) and the Florida Keys Health Start Coalition are joining together to help protect pregnant women in the Monroe County by creating a Monroe County Pregnancy Registry.
FKMCD will use the information in this confidential and voluntary registry to increase mosquito control efforts in registered women’s areas should there be potential Zika activity nearby. The identity of the people in the registry will be kept private and confidential.
The Zika virus can be passed from a mother to her fetus. Zika infection during pregnancy can cause certain birth defects including microcephaly, a malformation of the brain.
“Protecting the residents of Monroe County is our top priority,” said FKMCD Interim Executive Director Andrea Leal. “The registry will better enable us to do just that.”
To be added to the registry, please contact Catherine Pruszynski with FKMCD at 305-292-7190 x 160 or by emailing her at [email protected].
