FKEC Conducts Distribution Upgrade Work along US 1 in Marathon
Florida Keys Electric Cooperative is committed to improving and further storm-hardening electric service in the Middle and Upper Keys. Over the next few months, cooperative contract crews will be upgrading critical sections of the distribution system in Marathon by installing storm-resistant utility poles, pole-top equipment, and restringing power lines along the Gulf side of US1, between 35th Street and Aviation Blvd.
This project follows recent co-op work upgrading distribution conductor line in other areas in Marathon. Both improvement projects are critical to maintaining a storm-strong system and reliable power service.
FKEC and co-op contract crews are committed to working strategically to complete all projects with as minimal an impact on businesses, traffic, and members as possible. At this time, no road lane closures or traffic diversions are anticipated. However, FKEC asks all drivers to remain focused on the highway and avoid distractions from roadside work. For your protection and that of our crews, please maintain a safe distance from all utility work.
Should any planned brief localized power interruption be required, FKEC will provide advance notice to the members affected.
FKEC thanks our members and community for your cooperation and support as we continuously work to upgrade our power infrastructure and maintain 99% power service reliability throughout our Middle and Upper Keys service territory. If you have questions or concerns please call FKEC Member Service at 305-852-2341
