Firefighter Complete Advanced Training Course
Members of the Key West Fire Department recently participated in a fire apparatus operations course. This advanced level apparatus pumping course covers the laws, rules, and driving techniques for emergency vehicles, as well as a review of fire service hydraulics.
These firefighters also applied their apparatus pumping knowledge and driving experience in practical training at the Truman Waterfront area. This portion of the course included the use of pre-connected fire hose lines, tandem pumping, drafting, relays, and master streams.
The course is aimed at training firefighters to become driver/engineers.
“These firefighter students maintained their enthusiasm, motivation, and focus to complete this 45-hours course,” said Training Division Chief Gregory Barroso. “They applied their understanding of fire stream hydraulics to prepare them for actual fire emergencies. The Key West Fire Department is thankful for their dedication to perfecting their training to become future driver/engineers.”
