Federal Grant to the Education Program at the KW Tropical Forest and Botanical Garden
The Key West Botanical Garden Society is proud to announce the receipt of $25,000 grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. The grant-supported project will revise and improve the “Living Laboratory”, a school partnership program that enriches elementary school science curriculum through interaction with the natural environment at the Key West Tropical Forest and Botanical Garden.
In previous years, hundreds of children have studied biodiversity with trained environmental educators and explored solutions to issues dealing with energy, ecosystems, migration and sea level rise. Under this grant, teachers and Garden staff will develop new lesson modules and test them for success as engaging instruction. The resulting lessons package will be designed to be adapted for use by other school districts with different ecosystems.
The Key West Botanical Garden Society, Inc. was formed to preserve, develop, expand and maintain the historic Key West Botanical Garden as an arboretum, botanical garden, wildlife refuge and education center. It is a registered 501 (c) 3 nonprofit corporation. Donations are deductible under the Internal Revenue Service Code.
