Fair Insurance Rates in Monroe (FIRM) offers second series of Free Flood Mitigation Workshops

(January 2, 2018 – Key West) FIRM wants to help you “Keep Your Home Above Water” with our second series of free flood mitigation workshops. The focus of these workshops will be elevation of homes and buildings in order to reduce both flood risk and the ever-rising expense of flood insurance. The workshops will also discuss “dry floodproofing” techniques which can help to prevent floodwaters from entering the structure. Roderick Scott, of L&R Resources, LLC will present his award-winning public education program “Hazard Mitigation – Elevation 101.” Local government floodplain managers and building department personnel will also be on hand to answer questions.

The first workshop is in Key West at the Harvey Government Center on January 16, followed by Key Largo on January 17 at the Murray Nelson Government Center, and finishing in Marathon at the Marathon Government Center on January

All workshops will be held in the Board of County Commissioners Chambers from 5:30-7:30 pm. The workshops are free, but registration is appreciated in order to provide ample meeting materials for all attendees.

FIRM is a non-partisan grassroots organization formed to fight for fair property insurance rates for property owners and residents of Monroe County, Florida (Florida Keys). FIRM was recently successful in securing a windstorm insurance rate freeze for Monroe County for 2018 from the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation (OIR) which saved Monroe County policyholders approximately $4 million. FIRM is also currently involved in legal action with the OIR and Citizens Property Insurance Corp. to attempt to roll back the 2017 rate increase for Monroe County.
