Eroica Trio to give Impromptu Concert performance at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on March 11
Piano and string ensemble, the Eroica Trio, will appear in Key West for an Impromptu Concert performance at 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 11 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 401 Duval St. The concert will be the fifth of the 2018 Impromptu Concert season, which is celebrating the centennial of the late composer Leonard Bernstein, a frequent visitor to Key West.
The trio, consisting of Erika Nickrenz, piano; Sara Parkins, violin; and Sara Sant’Ambroglio, cello, have been enchanting audiences around the world with their musical exuberance and technical virtuosity for decades.
In 1991, the trio won the prestigious Walter W. Naumberg Award. Their recordings have repeatedly been nominated for Grammy Awards. The three have known each other and been playing together since they were teenagers.
The group performs the Beethoven Triple Concerto more frequently than any other trio in the world, having appeared with renowned symphonies such as Chicago, St. Louis and San Francisco, Mostly Mozart Orchestra, Nashville, Indianapolis, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Houston, New Jersey and Seattle. In addition, The Trio has performed the work abroad in Germany and Spain, with the Haydn Orchestra in Italy, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Budapest Symphony, and the Prague Chamber Orchestra.
But the trio does not neglect contemporary music. They perform “World Premieres: The Loom,” a work by Bruce Wolosoff inspired by the watercolors of Eric Fischl. “The Winter Trio,” by Michael Torke in Pasadena on the Coleman Series, and the premiere of Argentinean composer Daniel Binelli’s “Concerto for Piano Trio, Bandoneon and Orchestra.”
In addition to its demanding concert and recording schedule, the Eroica Trio is committed to music education, giving concerts, master classes and special children’s shows at schools and colleges throughout the country. They have performed at homeless shelters, senior centers and prisons to bring their music to people who might not normally have the chance to hear live performances. Each summer, the Trio performs at music festivals throughout the world, including the Hollywood Bowl, Aspen, Mostly Mozart, Ravinia, and Spoleto, Italy.
The group has performed for Impromptu Concerts before. During their March 11 repeat performance, they’ll perform Bach’s “Chaconne, from Partita No. 2 in d minor,” “Adagio in g minor,” by Tomaso Albinoni, “West Side Story Suite,” by Leonard Bernstein, and “Trio in a minor,” by Maurice Ravel.
Tickets for the concert cost $20, and are available at www.keystix.com, or at the door on the afternoon of the event. Cash, checks, or credit/debit cards accepted. Students admitted free. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
