Drugs found during traffic stop

Two Miami men were arrested Thursday night after multiple pills, heroin and marijuana were found during a Key Largo traffic stop.

Eduardo Luis Quevedo Mesa, 27, was charged with possession of controlled substance without a prescription, marijuana, heroin and drug paraphernalia.

Esteban Endo, 30, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Traffic Enforcement Unit Deputy Edward Swogger stopped a southbound Hyundai near Mile Marker 104 at approximately 8:16 p.m. that did not have its lights on. There were three people in the car. Quevedo Mesa was the front passenger.

Deputy Swogger asked all three in the car if any had a medical marijuana card as he detected a heavy odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. All three people stated they did not have a medical marijuana card. Quevedo Mesa handed over about 5.4 grams of marijuana and said all of it was his. Deputy Swogger found pipe in the car near where Endo was sitting, a small amount of a heroin — less than a gram — and 29 generic Xanax pills. Quevedo Mesa said all the drugs were his.

Quevedo Mesa stated he came down to the Florida Keys to smoke heroin.

Quevedo Mesa and Endo were taken to jail.

The third person not charged.
