Diver airlifted to Miami dies at hospital

The diver who fell unconscious while back aboard a rental boat after diving 112 feet on the Eagle wreck off Islamorada Tuesday afternoon died a Miami hospital.

Charles H. Boone, 45, of Quitman, Arkansas, was pronounced dead at 9:19 p.m. at Mercy Hospital.

The Sheriff’s Office was notified at 1:44 p.m. Tuesday that people aboard a A1A Watersports boat brought Boone ashore. Boone was then taken to Mariners Hospital in Tavernier.

Boone was airlifted by Trauma Star from Mariners Hospital to Mercy Hospital.

No foul play is expected.

Autopsy results are pending with the Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner’s Office.
