Detectives search gunmen’s apartment

Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit Detectives and the SWAT Team searched a Meridian West Apartment on Shrimp Road Tuesday night where two suspects in Monday’s fatal Stock Island shooting live(d).

Neither suspect — brothers Mayque Marin Gomez, 31, of Shrimp Road, and Jose Luis Espinosa Gomez, 34 — were found in the 6:30 p.m. search.

The apartment was empty.

The Sheriff’s Office and its law enforcement partners continued their search for the brothers Wednesday. Both are wanted on $1.6 million bail.

Detectives did retrieve two handguns and some clothing items in the apartment search. Whether the handguns found are linked to the shooting and whether the clothing items were worn by either suspect during the time of the shooting remains under investigation.

The public is asked to call 911 if they see either suspect. The public is asked to not approach either suspect. Both men should be considered armed and dangerous, however Detectives believe the shooting of Jose Manuel Clemente, 45, of Stock Island, and Iliecer Noa, 43, also of Stock Island, were targeted hits and not random.

Clemente was pronounced dead at the scene — the commercial fishing trap yard at 5515 5th Ave. known locally as “La Curva.” Noa remains in critical condition at Jackson South Medical Center in Miami.

What spurred the shooting remains under investigation, but one witness reported hearing the men argue over a Mercedes vehicle.
