Detectives investigating stabbing incident

Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit are investigating a stabbing incident that took place at the entrance to the La Siesta Resort in Islamorada at 6:15 a.m. on 15th Dec.

The victim indicated he and the suspect argued in a vehicle as they were on their way to work. The two men work construction together. The argument led to the stabbing, which took place outside the entrance to the resort. The victim asked for assistance from the manager of a construction company working at that location.

When deputies arrived, they found the victim and suspect still on the scene. The victim was airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center in Miami for treatment of a chest wound.

The suspect in this case is in custody, charged with aggravated battery with  a deadly weapon. He is 30 year old Sergio Rivero  from Miami. The victim is 43 year old Manuel Lopez, also of Miami.

The victim said he  and the suspect were driving to work from Miami. They are working construction at La Siesta Resort. The victim complained about the suspect’s driving. The suspect stopped the car and both men got out of the vehicle. The suspect then stabbed the victim in the chest with a knife.
