Detectives Earn Unit Award

In a recent awards ceremony hosted by the Grand Key Resort, Key West Police Chief Sean Brandenburg recognized the Criminal Investigations Unit with a Unit Award.

“The Detectives with the KWPD Criminal Investigations Unit often go unnoticed by the public,” he said, “but are always working to see the best possible outcomes for the yet-to-be-solved cases in Key West.”

The Detectives’ duties range from pawn shop inspections, sex offender checks and missing persons to cases such as long-term fraud investigations, death investigations, sexual batteries, and homicides.

They are often called upon for high-profile cases and are relied upon by our partnering agencies, including the Sheriff’s Office, Homeland Security, the DEA and the FBI.

“These men and women have collectively been assigned over 250 cases in the course of 12 months,” said Chief Brandenburg. “Together this Unit has over 70 years of law enforcement experience. This Unit’s dedication to the department and the community is reflected in their work, and without them, Key West would be a less safe place to live and visit.”
