Decking Historic Halls: Holiday Home Tours Put Health and History First
Old Island Restoration Foundation will be able to keep the welcoming tradition of the Key West Home Tours going this season. The Key West Home Tours and all activities produced by Old Island Restoration Foundation and its Oldest House & Garden Museum follow all CDC Covid-19 Safety Guidelines.
Of course, the tours aren’t expected to draw the large number of people as in the past, but they will be safely offered for the 61st consecutive year. The tours will be conducted very differently this year. There will not be volunteers stationed inside the houses to speak about the house. its different rooms and their contents. One masked tour guide will lead one masked small group or separate individuals through the homes and provide the narration.
The December tours will be the 29th & 30th 2020 from 2 pm to 5 pm. They will feature Historic Homes for the Holidays:
- Key West Oldest House & Garden, built 1829
- Audubon House & Tropical Gardens, built 1846 – 1849
- Key West Woman’s Club at the Hellings House Museum, built 1892
- Amsterdam’s Curry Mansion Inn, origins 1869, Georgian Revival mansion built 1901
The Tours are the organization’s largest fundraising event. Proceeds fund the preservation and promotion of Key West architecture and cultural heritage in addition to the ongoing restoration of Key West’s Oldest House & Garden Museum located at 322 Duval Street.
The two-day, monthly tours will run December through March and the number of visitors allowed inside each home will be limited and spaced out, masks will be required and hand sanitizers will be provided. All CDC pandemic safety guidelines will be enforced to protect the health of all participants, volunteers and staff.
