December Key West Garden Club Meeting
Master gardener Susie Reutling will be sharing her knowledge and expertise of Florida Keys native plants at the December 6, 2018 Key West Garden Club meeting. The meeting will be held at 1:30 pm in the Pavilion in the Fort West Martello on Atlantic Blvd. next to Higgs Beach. The title of her presentation is Naturescape Your Landscape: What, Why, How?
Susie and her husband, Karl, moved from very northern New York state. Gardening came naturally, having learned from a master, her mother. She became proficient in some areas of nursery care while working at several greenhouses and nurseries after her retirement. They have lived full time in the Keys since 2008. Susie has volunteered with Mote Marine at the Eco-Discovery Center, as a nest surveyor and rescue & salvage for Save-a-Turtle, as Editor for the Big Pine Key Botanical Society newsletter, and as a Master Naturalist. In February of this year Susie retired as the Executive Coordinator for Last Stand, an environmental watch dog group that works to protect the environment and quality of life in the Florida Keys. Now as a volunteer, Susie manages the Nursery at the Key West Botanical Garden & Tropical Forest and is presently active in the Monroe County Master Gardener program.
The Key West Garden Club will have a variety of plants for sale including a nice selection of natives. Our meetings are free and open to the public. For further information contact Jane Tiedeman at 305-923-3820.
