Cudjoe Key Fire Station 11 Celebrates ‘Topping Off’ Milestone
CUDJOE KEY, FL – The contractor for the Monroe County’s Fire Station 11 hosted a “topping off” ceremony on Wednesday at the station grounds on Cudjoe Key. Monroe County Project Management and Monroe County Fire Rescue were in attendance. A topping off celebrates the completion of the roof structure or the highest point on the building.
“This station is critical to Monroe County Fire Rescue’s infrastructure,” said Deputy Chief Steve Hudson. “It will be an asset to the Lower Keys community and will help reduce response times and improve our ISO rating in the service area.”
Currently, Monroe County’s Station 11 is housed at the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Cudjoe Key substation. The new station will be home to the latest addition to the fleet: Ladder 11, and an Advanced Life Support rescue truck.
The building will be able to withstand category 5 hurricanes and wind gusts up to 200 miles per hour. The project began in November 2018 and has a tentative completion date in early 2020.
