FKAA Launches Toilet Retrofit Rebate Program

Florida Keys – March 12, 2020 – The Florida Keys Aqueduct Authority (Authority) is launching its newest rebate initiative, the Florida Keys Toilet Retrofit Rebate Program.  With the aim of reducing potable water use and promoting a local water conservation ethic, the Authority is offering rebates to customers who replace an older, inefficient toilet with a high efficiency WaterSense labeled toilet.  The Authority will also offer an additional rebate to any customers’ who meet the Authority’s Senior and 100% Disabled Veteran Discount Program criteria and have the qualifying toilet installed by a licensed plumber.

  1. Community-wide Program

Eligibility: Property owners or customers installing the product in a home built prior to 1992, in the Authority’s water service area.

  • Replace an inefficient toilet with a 1.28 gallon per flush or less single flush ($100 max rebate)
  • Replace an inefficient toilet with a 1.28 gallon per flush max flush dual flush toilet ($150 max rebate)
  1. Income Eligible Senior Citizens or Disabled Veterans Installation Program

Eligibility: Customers must meet the guidelines for the Authority’s Senior Citizen/Disabled Veteran Discount Program

  • A maximum $200 rebate is available to eligible applicants who have a licensed plumber install a qualifying toilet (see Community-wide program)

All qualifying applicants will receive a conservation kit with a WaterSense showerhead and WaterSense bathroom aerator and installation instructions.

Rebates are limited to one per customer and will be processed as a credit on the customer’s water bill.

By reducing potable water consumption customers will see a savings on both their water and wastewater bills.

Our expanded installation program for disadvantaged senior citizens and 100% disabled veterans enables those customers, who could not otherwise afford to make an initial investment, to install a high efficiency fixture that will end up paying dividends into the future.

Once program funding is expended and all high efficiency toilets and conservation kits are installed, a savings of 4.6 million gallons of potable water per year is anticipated.  The program is funded, in part, through a $30,000 grant provided by the South Florida Water Management District.

WaterSense labeled products are backed by independent, third–party certification and meet EPA’s specifications for water efficiency and performance. When you use these water–saving products you can expect exceptional performance in addition to water savings.

Customers may obtain the rebate application and instructions at fkaa.com or at any of our customer service offices.
