Courtesy Budget Meeting in Marathon on Sept. 9 Canceled
MONROE COUNTY, FL – The Monroe County Board of County Commissioners voted tonight to cancel the courtesy special budget meeting in Marathon scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 9 at 5:05 p.m. The special meeting is not required by law but is traditionally held as a courtesy to give Middle Keys residents an opportunity for input without driving to Key West or Key Largo. With the public’s ability to participate in the hearings via Zoom, the special courtesy meeting in Marathon is not necessary at this time. Additionally, Thursday’s meeting would have conflicted with the City of Marathon’s required budget hearing, also scheduled for that time.
By law, a county is required to hold two public hearings at which action can be taken. Tonight was the first required public hearing in Key West. The final public hearing will be on Wednesday, Sept. 15 at 5:05 p.m. in Key Largo. To participate in the meeting, visit www.monroecounty-fl.gov/meetings for the instructions to do so. Participants can watch via that website or on AT&T U-Verse channel 99, Comcast channel 76, Roku, or the County’s free MCTV app found in the app store under “Monroe County TV.”
