County Officials Presented at Annual Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Leadership Summit
MONROE COUNTY, FL – On Dec. 12-13, Monroe County Mayor David Rice, Commissioner Holly Raschein, and Administrator Roman Gastesi presented at the 13th annual Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact Summit. This year’s theme was “Seizing the Moment, Together.” The event was hosted by Palm Beach County virtually with more than 700 registrants, including about 160 students. The compact is a thirteen-year partnership between Broward, Miami-Dade, Monroe, and Palm Beach counties to work collaboratively to reduce regional greenhouse gas emissions, implement climate adaptation strategies, and build regional climate resilience within their communities and across the Southeast Florida region. The summit is a major regional event to share knowledge, showcase climate action, engage leadership across sectors, and mobilize collaboration. The summit attracts innovative thinkers and leaders from the business, government, academic, and nonprofit community to exchange dialogue and ideas on expanding the region’s capacity to respond to climate challenges and build climate resilience. Monroe County hosted the summit in 2019, 2015, and 2012. To learn more about the compact, visit southeastfloridaclimatecompact .org/.
