MONROE COUNTY, FL – Monroe County is seeking and accepting comments from residents regarding the submission of three Community Development Block Grant – Mitigation (CDBG-MIT) grant funding applications to the State of Florida, Department of Economic Opportunity. The program is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Public comment will be accepted until Friday, Sept. 10, 2021, at 5 p.m. and may be submitted by email to [email protected]. More information on the three proposed projects can be found at www.monroecounty-fl.gov/cdbgpubliccomment.
The proposed projects include:
- Twin Lakes Subdivision Flooding Mitigation Project, Key Largo: elevate the low-lying roadway and construct a stormwater collection system, pump station, and injection wells to mitigate for sea-level rise and stormwater flooding in the community.
- Stillwright Point Flooding Mitigation Project in Key Largo: design and construct improvements to roads to mitigate for sea-level rise and stormwater flooding by elevating low-lying roads and constructing a stormwater collection system, pump station, and disposal injection wells. The project will adapt the community for the impacts of sea-level rise and improve drainage in the area.
- Florida Keys l Regional Resilience Roads Adaptation Planning Project: develop a cohesive roads adaptation capital implementation plan for the five municipalities in Monroe County using a phased flooding and sea-level rise resilience strategy based upon data-driven outcomes for high-quality mitigation planning. In addition, Monroe County will engage the residents of three lower-income vulnerable neighborhoods, one each in the upper, middle, and lower Keys, to gather input for the conceptual designs of neighborhood road adaptation projects.
