Cosmetic Store Complaints Mount, Local Rip Off Team Demands Refund
Raids by Key West City Code inspectors last week found five of seven Duval Street cosmetics store in violation of city codes.
Now a local consumer group, The Key West Rip Off Rapid Response Team is demanding one cosmetics store refund a 70 year old women visitor from Tampa $5,375.
The group claims Oro Gold at 518 Duval Street used high pressure sales tactics and violated city code to make the sale. The group further claims the store failed to honor their own return policy leaving the unhappy senior with products she did not want and nor could afford.
Spokesperson Bruce Mitchell of The Key West Rip Off Rapid Response Team called it, “An especially sad case of an unsuspecting senior being victimized by an unscrupulous business. We have seen many women get scammed by these skin cream shops but this one on a fixed income is a real heartbreaker”
Another member of the group, local businessman Tevis Wernicoff called it, “Especially disappointing since we signed a legal agreement with this business not to pull this stuff after the last complaint . We had to picket the store to get money back last time, maybe we’ll have to do it again. ”
The alleged victim Pilar Cummings has filed a complaint with the Key West City Code office and the case has been formally opened by the Key West City Code office.

Why, if these people persist in illegal (scam) activities, are they not shut down and sent away? How many visitors are scammed by them, who never report the thefts. One would think, given the dependence on tourist trade, that the City/police would close this predator down. Too many times have I seen articles and notices about Oro Gold not to wonder why this trap is tolerated?
Agree with Jimmy above. Today, July 13, 2017, I visited Key West and on Duval Street a sample was given to me and my husbandand I made the mistake of going inTo the shop. The high pressure, unscrupulous tactics were attempted to be used on me. After I said “no” the sales person turned and threw a fit like a child with a behavior problem. He went from charming and nice to a 180 degree turn of rude, insulting, and nasty. We just left and you would have thought his world came crashing in, just because I said no. I almost asked him, “What is your problem? Do you always treat people like this?” I knew it was a scam operation simply by the high pressure tactics and spoiled bratty behavior. Why can’t these harassing places be shut down? Especially after they have been caught fraudulently charging people? It makes me think twice about visiting Key West again. Clean up Key West fraud!
