Conch Republic Independence Day
April is a special month in Key West. The island becomes extra-animated with parties celebrating the Conch Republic Independence Celebration (April 15 to April 24), when Key West momentarily seceded from the United States. Festivities include the longest parade in the world, pub crawls, fake battles, dog costume contests, and other off-beat traditions.
Locals never miss an opportunity to exhibit their “sovereign state of mind” – as you’ll see in their annual celebrations. The Marker Key West Harbor Resort is hosting a conch diving contest throughout the 9-day celebration, allowing guests to jump into one of the hotel’s three scenic pools for a conch shell – one of which includes the grand prize of a free drink at Starboard Bar.
