Over $75,000 in prizes earned!

 “Monroe’s computer science students finish the school year with a record-setting 650 Internet Technology (IT) industry certifications, and they are not done yet,” according to Sibba Mira, Career and Technical Education Coordinator. “District certifications increased 49% over last school year’s totals, bringing <Monroe /> COMPUTE$ prizes to $75,750 year to date. Additional students will be working hard to qualify for more national certifications during the district’s various summer programs adding to the impressive totals.”

“Coral Shores High School senior Miguel Quezada has earned ten certifications and $1,450 in prize money, while Key West High School junior, Daniil Ivannikov, has earned six certifications and $1,100 in prize money this year,” explained Superintendent Mark Porter. “These students took the initiative to earn as many certifications as possible, many of which included college credit.”

“We are planning to add several new certifications next year to keep up with industry and student demand,” Mira explained, “with the help of<Monroe /> COMPUTE$, we anticipate continued substantial growth next year as well.”

“My students went above and beyond our expectations,” said Ebenson Michelin, Key West High School’s information technology instructor. Michelin’s students lead the district in Microsoft Office Specialist certifications, the industry’s credential in highest demand, with a total of 37 certified students. MCSD middle school students accounted for 26% of MOS certifications and a large portion of the district certifications as a whole.
