Students from Sugarloaf Middle School, Horace O’Bryant Middle School, Marathon Middle School, and Coral Shores High schools will each receive checks ranging from $400-$500 for completing their Microsoft Office Specialist certification. In addition, each award is worth 3 college credit hours at Florida colleges and universities.
“These skills will enable you to learn here and work anywhere,” proclaimed John Padget.
Reward Checks were distributed as follows:
- Coral Shores $500 (1), $400 (8)
- Marathon Middle School-$500 (1),
- Sugarloaf (Middle) School-$500 (1)
- Horace O’Bryant (Middle) School -$500 (3) $400 (2)
Padget continued, “On average you will earn $16,000 annually more than someone without the certification. Congratulations! I strongly encourage you to work with your teachers, move along the Information Technology Pathway, and earn as many IT certifications as possible.”
Students enrolled in all Monroe middle and high schools are utilizing newly learned IT skills in other classes, paving the way to post-secondary study and future careers in every profession. Over 400 students in IT classes can take certification tests anytime, whenever they are ready.
“Cash awards will continue at the $500 level for early completers, but will gradually decrease to $100 for all students who complete before June 30, 2017,” according to Dr. Jerry Caputo, Director of Career & Adult Education.
