Community Foundation Awards $120,000 for Long Term Hurricane Irma Recovery Needs
The Community Foundation of the Florida Keys (CFFK) has awarded $120,000 to the Monroe County Long Term Recovery Group (LTRG) to continue to address ongoing recovery and rebuilding efforts in the Keys following Hurricane Irma. The grant is from CFFK’s Florida Keys Emergency Relief Fund, which has provided more than $1.1 million to date throughout the Keys for relief and recovery assistance.
The $120,000 grant is the lead gift for the new Long Term Recovery Group collaborative and will provide direct services to Hurricane Irma victims and administration staffing. The LTRG was established to address the ongoing effects of Hurricane Irma on the residents of Monroe County by collaborating with nonprofit services and the faith-based community. The LTRG seeks to help repair and restore housing impacted by Irma while addressing the ongoing needs of its community members who are storm victims. CFFK is serving as the fiscal agent for the new collaborative group.
Nearly $1.4 million has been raised to date through the Florida Keys Emergency Relief Fund and the Landau Family Hurricane Relief Fund for the Upper Keys for the Community Foundation’s disaster relief initiative. More than $1.1 million has been provided to 75 nonprofit organizations providing relief and recovery directly to thousands of residents from Key West to Key Largo.
“One of the Community Foundation’s most important roles is to help with critical needs in the Keys,” said CFFK President and CEO Dianna Sutton. “We recognize the importance of the new Long Term collaborative group in addressing our community’s ongoing needs for recovery and rebuilding following Hurricane Irma. The grant will provide additional direct assistance to help children, families, businesses and other residents still in need throughout the Keys.”
The Recovery Group’s Chair, Stephanie Kaple, said, “The Long Term Recovery Group is very appreciative of CFFK’s support both with this contribution and their partnership as our Fiscal Agent. We hope other foundations will be inspired by CFFK and step forward to work together with us to rebuild Monroe County.”
