COAST GUARD AUXILIARY OFFERS 1 DAY BOATING COURSE

The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary/Key West offers “ABOUT BOATING SAFELY” at St. Mary Star of the Sea, 1010 Windsor Ln., Key West.  The one day course will be held Saturday, March 7 from 9:00am to 4:00pm in the Klaus Murphy Center.

Participants earn their Florida State Boater’s ID card which is required for anyone born after December 31, 1987, to operate a boat of 10 horsepower or more. Many insurance companies offer discounts with this course certification.

Topics covered include Florida and Federal Regulations, Safety Equipment, Navigation Rules, Boating Hazards, Trailering and Protecting Your Boat.  

The course fee (including materials) is $30 per person; $50 per couple sharing a book.  Payable at the door.

The Coast Guard estimates that human error accounts for 70 percent of all boating accidents.  Monroe County leads the nation in boating accidents and fatalities. The Coast Guard recommends that all boaters take a boating safety course.
