Christine Paul named Stanley Switlik Elementary School’s next Principal
MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – Incoming Superintendent, Theresa Axford, has named Christine Paul as Stanley Switlik Elementary School’s (SSE) next principal.
“Mrs. Paul has worked closely with all aspects of teaching and learning throughout her various roles in the district,” Mrs. Axford said. “Her experience and commitment to providing students with a strong educational foundation will be a great asset to the students and teachers at SSE.”
Christine Paul, a Marathon High School graduate, is a 23-year veteran of the Monroe County School District. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from Florida International University and a Master’s degree from Florida State University. She began her teaching career as an art teacher and media specialist at Plantation Key School and Sugarloaf School where she was known for developing learning environments that supported creativity, collaboration, and inclusion for all students.
In 2003, Christine Paul moved to Stanley Switlik Elementary School, where she spent 13 years in a variety of roles to include second grade teacher, library media specialist, district Library Media Teacher Leader, and mentor teacher while being active in the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) and School Advisory Council. In 2006, she received National Board Professional certification in Library Media. She was named as MCSD’s 2010-2011 Teacher of the Year during her tenure at SSE.
As the Assistant Principal of Marathon Middle/High School for the past four years, Christine Paul has overseen academic and extracurricular programming, curriculum, and testing reform initiatives for the school’s 6-12 grade students. She has played key roles in the Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) and Multi-Tiered Support System (MTSS) programs, while working hard to increase student engagement, achievement and the school’s graduation rate.
Marathon Middle/High School Principal, Wendy McPherson, asserts that Christine Paul will have a great impact in her new position. “Christine is a passionate educator who believes that a strong educational foundation is the key to a child’s success.” Furthermore, Mrs. McPherson states. “I look forward to working with Christine to help improve the transition of our students and to increase opportunities for collaboration between schools to better serve the Marathon community.”
Christine Paul and her husband Derek, a Lieutenant with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, have two sons, Raymond (16 years old) and Christopher (12 years old), both former SSE students who currently attend Marathon High School.
She is honored to be selected as the new principal of SSE and looks forward to working closely with SSE teachers while bringing her own brand of leadership to her former school. “Switlik teachers and staff have a long history of success and achievement, while at the same time, doing all they can to provide the most caring and supportive environment,” Paul said. “I am truly honored to have been chosen for this position and I am looking forward to helping the students of the Marathon community begin their most important journey of their young lives.”
