Children can immerse in the enchanting world of Shel Silverstein during Key West Art & Historical Society weeklong workshop

Key West, FL. – Children aged 5-13 can explore the enchantingly poetic world of the late award-winning children’s author, singer-songwriter, cartoonist, screenwriter, and actor Shel Silverstein through art, wordplay, and music during “Uncle Shelby’s Workshop,” which runs from 9:00am through 4:00pm, Monday, March 12 through Friday, March 16 at Fort East Martello, 3501 South Roosevelt Blvd.

Artists and teachers Crystal Smith and Deborah Butterbaugh will lead students in mask-making creations inspired by Silverstein’s illustrations and in performing short plays based on his plays and stories.

“This fun and engaging workshop will encourage budding poets, illustrators, and songwriters to find the missing piece, turn the light on in the attic, and find out where the sidewalk ends,” says Key West Art & Historical Society education director Adele Williams.

Cost is $225 for Society members and $250 for non-members, which includes supplies and light snacks. Sponsored by Helmerich Trust. Registration information can be found at kwahs.org/event/uncle-shelbys-workshop or by calling Adele Williams at 305-295-6616, extension 115. Your museums.  Your community.  It takes an island.
