The Key West Chamber of Commerce, during its December member luncheon, honored the Key West Fire Department’s Lieutenant Colton Butler as Firefighter of the Year. The award is sponsored by the Harry S. Truman Little White House.
Each year, the Greater Key West Chamber of Commerce names an Officer, a Firefighter, and an Employee of the Year from the City of Key West.
“Lt. Butler embodies the true spirit of selflessness and dedication,” said Fire Chief Alan Averette, “serving as a vital asset to our fire department and a steadfast member of the Key West community.
“Lt. Butler’s exceptional leadership and technical expertise shine through in his daily contributions to our department,” continued the Fire Chief, “especially through his active participation in our Special Operations Teams. His ability to navigate the unique challenges of serving an island community like Key West — where emergency responses often involve friends, family, and loved ones — sets him apart as a true professional. Despite these heightened emotional stressors, Lt. Butler consistently maintains a focus and composure that inspires his colleagues and ensures the safety of those we serve.
“Whether mentoring newer firefighters, engaging in community outreach, or providing comfort to those in crisis, Lt. Butler exemplifies what it means to serve with heart and humanity.”
