Celebrity Golfers & Sports Legend Set to Tee off Next Week in Orlando’s 15th Annual Amputee Golf Classic

Two Day Charity Event Starts Sunday at the Omni Orlando Resort ChampionsGate with a Pairings Party & Silent Auction

Orlando, Florida (February 7, 2018) – It was announced today that congenital amputee Dave Stevens, who made NCAA college football and professional baseball history, leads a field of celebrity amputee golfers that will participate February 11th & 12th   in the  Amputee Golf Classic at the Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate.

As an athlete, Stevens made NCAA history as the only double amputee to play three seasons of college football at Augsburg University in Minneapolis from 1987-89.  Dave also signed a spring training contract in 1996 and played three weeks of professional baseball with the St. Paul Saints. His teammates included MLB legends Darryl Strawberry and soon-to-be Hall of Fame pitcher Jack Morris.  As a Saint, Stevens started one game at second base, and even pinch-hit for Strawberry after a three home run game. Stevens tried out for the Minnesota Twins in 1983 and 1984, as well as the Dallas Cowboys in 1990.

With his success as a multi-sport professional athlete, Stevens fits in perfectly with the amputee athletes, sports legends and celebrities slated to tee it up at the event. Athletes such former Florida Gators quarterback Chris Leak, MLB pitcher Rick Ankiel, and two-time MLB All-Star Carl Everett are scheduled to participate at this event which has become an annual tradition in Florida.

“This tournament has proven to be something special, and a true reflection of each individual that participates in it,” said CAGC tournament founder David Bowen.  “From the actors and professional athletes to the incredible abilities showcased by our amputee participants, it’s an unbelievable time for a deserving cause.”
