Boat Fire Overnight

The Key West Fire Department and the U.S. Coast Guard responded to a boat fire  just off Fleming Key before dawn this morning. The boat was reported to have been struck by lighting and was fully engulfed when the fire boat arrived. It sank in shallow water before the fire was extinguished.

No one was aboard the boat when the fire department arrived and there were no injuries. The boat was west of Fleming Key.

The Coast Guard is investigating.
