Boat explodes off Marathon, no serious injuries
A center console style boat reportedly exploded less than a mile off Marathon on the Gulfside Tuesday morning sending approximately 10 people into the water.
There no reported life threatening injuries.
Sheriff’s Office 911 Communicators were notified of the explosion at 10:24 a.m.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the U.S. Coast Guard and a good Samaritan responded to the scene.
There were juveniles included in the group.
Early reports indicate most or all of those on board were wearing life jackets.
A good Samaritan pulled the group from the water.
The Coast Guard reportedly towed the vessel back to a dock on Gulfstream Boulevard where the group was reportedly renting a residence as well the boat.
The victims suffered reported burns, cuts and bruises, but all refused transport to the hospital once ashore at Gulfstream Boulevard.
The FWC is the investigating agency.
