Bishop Anderson Day
Mayor Danise “Deedee” Henriquez and the Key West City Commission honored Bishop Derrick Anderson, for his service to Key West.
Bishop Anderson came to Key West and took charge of the effort to rebuild St. James First Missionary Baptist Church; he was a proud native of Miami, while still loving his adopted home of Key West.
Bishop Anderson, his wife Lakeysha, son Derrick, and daughter Arianna have all been embraced and become engrained in the city of Key West. Bishop Anderson’s ministry includes getting one’s hands dirty as evidenced after Hurricane Ian, when he and members of Union Lodge 47 and members of his church went in person to homes to remove furniture and personally see to the needs of community members — particularly our elders.
“Bishop Anderson has been a force and a servant for God, his church, and our community, and so much more in and for the City of Key West, including serving on the Bahama Village Redevelopment Advisory Committee and the Bahama Village Music Program,” reads the proclamation.
“It has been a privilege as well as a pleasure,” said Bishop Anderson. “I’m going to miss this place. There is no place like Key West.
Vice Mayor Clayton Lopez noted that Bishop Anderson, “has the Key to the City and is an honorary Conch, so he can’t forget this city! He’s one of us.”
