Big Pine Key Satellite Building and Permitting Office To Open Aug. 9 at Library Branch
BIG PINE KEY – Monroe County Building and Permitting will open a satellite office at the Monroe County Public Library Big Pine Key Branch, 213 Key Deer Boulevard, tentatively on Monday, Aug. 9. One staff person will be available to take in and issue building permits for the public. The staff person will courier documents to the needed departments once submitted, and approved permits can then be picked up from the new office. Currently, homeowners and contractors must physically visit either the Marathon or Stock Island building department office. The satellite office will be in the library’s backroom and will be open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“I have to thank staff for coordinating this request. I heard the needs of my constituents in the Lower Keys, and we saw it through,” said Monroe County Mayor Michelle Coldiron, who represents District 2. “Having a satellite office on Big Pine Key will ensure Lower Keys residents receive necessary levels of service without having to travel too far from home.”
Monroe County continues the implementation process to a new cloud-based permitting and land management application to improve and expedite services and minimize delays in issuing permits. The system is tentatively scheduled to go live in the second quarter of 2022.
