BERNSTEIN PARK ON STOCK ISLAND AWARDED MULTIGENERATIONAL PARK DESIGNATION BY FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH

STOCK ISLAND, FL – Multigenerational parks are for everyone, because fun has no age limit. Bernstein Park on Stock Island just received its multigenerational park designation from the Florida Department of Health in Monroe County for being a modern park that reflects the community and appeals to all generations.

Multigenerational parks are a newer concept that goes beyond the traditional structure of playgrounds and picnic areas. Just as a community has residents of all ages, multigenerational parks foster a sense community. The status was awarded with the recent addition of the fit court that will help improve fitness for people of all ages and abilities and provides a safe outdoor environment with multiple activities of varying intensities.

“After opening the park in 2018, we are happy this park encourages community members, regardless of age, to remain active and enjoy a healthy lifestyle,” said Cary Knight, Monroe County Project Management. “The commissioners involved with rebuilding Bernstein Park were very supportive of making sure the park was inclusive of the entire community.”

Bernstein Park, located at 6751 5th St. on Stock Island, offers fitness and flexibility equipment, ballfields, playground, relaxation and hydration stations, informational signage, WIFI access, and is ADA compliant. Other multigenerational parks designated by the Florida Department of Health in Monroe County are Key Largo Community Park, Founder’s Park in Islamorada, Marathon Community Park, and in Key West Clarence S. Higgs Memorial Beach Park, Nelson English Park, and Truman Waterfront Park. More information on multigenerational parks can be found at www.flhealth.gov.
