Bahama Village Committee Seeking Community Input
The Bahama Village Redevelopment Advisory Committee is seeking community input regarding the use of the new Douglass Gym expansion project, which is currently under design.
The revitalization will provide substantially more square footage than the old annex. That means more room for additional programs. In October, the committee held a workshop and the community came up with ten suggested uses for the project. In addition to the current uses by the Bahama Village Music Program and Bahama Village Mentoring Program, public input suggested the following: A learning center, computer clinic, a multipurpose and intergeneration room, a museum, a kitchen, a nutritional education and meal service program, a small business incubator, and adult education programs.
At the next meeting, the committee is hoping to hear from individuals or groups who could fulfill these suggested uses.
The meeting is at 5:30 on Monday, January 6th in the Commission Chambers of City Hall, 1300 White St.
Any entity interested in being housed in the new facility is encouraged to bring ideas and business plans to this meeting.
