As Part Of Coronavirus Business Recovery Campaign, Mucarsel-Powell Hosts Teleconference With Over 100 Small & Mid-Sized Businesses & Non-Profit

Mucarsel-Powell’s Public Information Campaign Targets South Florida Business Owners & Entrepreneurs To Encourage Them To Apply For Emergency Aid

MIAMI, FL – Today, U.S. Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (FL-26) held the first of a series of virtual events aimed at informing South Florida entrepreneurs, small and medium-sized business owners, and non-profits of the resources available to them as a result of the COVID-19 crisis. Mucarsel-Powell was joined by Victoria Guerrero, SBA South Florida District Director and Brian Van Hook, Regional SBDC at Florida International University.

“I am grateful to all the entrepreneurs, business owners, and non-profit leaders who were able to ask questions about the emergency aid that’s available right now. After working hard in Washington to approve funds to alleviate the financial strain facing so many as a result of COVID-19, I now want to make sure people know how to access these benefits and have any of their questions and concerns addressed,” said Mucarsel-Powell. “When our small businesses are hurting, our entire community is hurting. My top priority is to help businesses, individuals, and families in South Florida confront this crisis.”

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Mucarsel-Powell has consistently called for more assistance to small and mid-sized businesses to be used to keep employees on staff and to meet basic needs that will keep operations open. She has been pushing to decrease or eliminate small business loan interests, expand eligibility for these loans, and defer loan payments for the duration of this crisis.

Mucarsel-Powell voted for The Families First Coronavirus Response Act and the Coronavirus Preparedness and Response Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2020, which strengthen our public health response, expand access to testing, provide relief to workers and families hit hard by the pandemic, and assists small businesses struggling with the fallout of COVID-19. Among other important provisions, these bills allow for an estimated $7 billion in low-interest loans to South Florida small businesses impacted by the coronavirus pandemic, which are being administered by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). Tomorrow, Mucarsel-Powell will be supporting the CARES Act, which includes $376 billion in relief for struggling small businesses.
