AFL-CIO Endorses Joe Garcia for Congress
Miami, FL— American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL–CIO), the country’s biggest confederation of trade unions, announced their support for former Democratic Congressman Joe Garcia.
“Working families can count on Joe to fight for them in Congress,” said Mike Williams, President of the Florida AFL-CIO, “When it comes to the issues that affect South Florida’s workers, Joe stands with us and has been a proven advocate for a living wage and fair working conditions.”
Garcia has received overwhelming support from labor groups representing the working families of CD26. Garcia has previously been endorsed by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT), International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), International Association of Ironworkers, United Food & Commercial Workers (UFCW), and the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT).
“I grew up in a working family in Westchester and I know how important it is to stand up for this community’s hard working men and women,” said Joe Garcia, candidate for Florida’s 26th Congressional District. “AFL-CIO fights for the rights and protections of our communities every day and I’m thankful for their support of my commitment to South Florida’s working families.”
Garcia has a long record of fighting for working families. Earlier this year, he took the minimum wage challenge meant to bring attention to the unreasonably low income minimum wage workers live on and the need for a living wage. In Congress, Garcia co-sponsored minimum wage legislation and continues to advocate for a $15 minimum wage today.
