Additional charges filed in marine-theft cases

A 49-year-old Stock Island man arrested earlier this month as part of a Sheriff’s Office investigation into multiple marine-related GPS thefts in Monroe County has been additionally charged for his role in another burglary from last year.

Oscar Jimeranez Madariaga now faces an additional eight counts of burglary and two additional counts of grand theft as well as one count of illegal use of a two-way communication device, on top of the previously filed charges of two counts of grand theft, two counts of burglary to a conveyance, possession of burglary tools, grand theft causing more than $1,000 in damage, and child neglect.

His bail is $305,000.

“The Sheriff’s Office continues to bring charges and make multiple arrests in the theft of marine GPS units and other electronics, and we will continue to aggressively pursue these cases,” said Sheriff Rick Ramsay.

Detectives say more arrests and more charges may be pending as the investigations remain ongoing.
