Adam Russell & Kelly Lever – NAKED IN THE GARDEN- @JAG Gallery – 3/25 – 4/12 – Reception April 1st, 5 – 7pm

A big announcement from Adam and Kelly at Key West Pottery. We were planning to write a press release for their upcoming exhibition at JAG Gallery but Adam Russell recently posted this wonderful update to his Instagram page:

“Kelly I have spent the last few months collaborating on an exhibition of paintings that is opening at JAG Gallery on the 25th of this month, with an Artists reception on April 1st.

Following up a super fun show I did last year with JAG, titled “Totems of Island City”, The gallery owner (And amazing painter), Letty Nowak, invited me back for a mid-season painting exhibition this year.

Spontaneously during that conversation I blurted out that I thought collaborating with Kelly might be a really fun idea…and Letty, always game for creative adventure, totally agreed.

The process that resulted has been pretty incredible. Although Kelly and I often collaborate in many ways, this has actually been our first experience physically combining our painting techniques into singular compositions, on the same canvas.

It was WAY HARDER than I would’ve supposed….

HOWEVER, as any creative person knows…That difficulty is where inspiration lives.

This body of work has really pushed Kelly and I both out of our well appointed “comfort zones” and into territory that feels really exciting.

It took a minute. To find that voice…strip away all the nonsense about the way we have “always painted” … recognize the natural state of our bare creativity and celebrate the beauty of that shared space.”
