A Stock Island woman has been sentenced to Florida State Prison after pleading out to six criminal charges in two separate cases
Jerneen Green, 44, pleaded no contest on July 1 to two counts of possession of a firearm (ammunition) by a convicted felon, two counts of possession of a new-legend drug without a prescription, one count of possession of drug paraphernalia and one count of felony battery. Monroe County Circuit Court Judge Timothy Koenig sentenced her to 17 months to be followed by two years of probation.
One case stems from September 12, 2018, when Monroe County Sheriff’s Office officers along with federal agents executed a search warrant at a residence on 12th Avenue on Stock Island. Green, who was in a bedroom when police arrived, was one of four people detained during the search.
In the bedroom where Green was found, police discovered 26 pills of trazodone hydrochloride, an anti-depressant; 22 pills of potassium; 31 rounds of .38-caliber and 9mm ammunition; “multiple marijuana pipes and grinders”; and $303 in cash. A pill bottle found in Green’s bra contained .3 grams of cocaine. She and another person at the house, in whose bedroom cocaine was found, were arrested.
In the other case, from April 6, 2018, deputies were called to the same residence to respond to a fight. When they arrived, they found a disheveled man outside covered in dirt. His head had “a large bump in the back” and he had scratches and cuts on his forearms. He told deputies he fell while making his way to his van after arguing with Green.
But a witness told deputies Green hit the man with a baseball bat. When questioned, Green confirmed that, saying she hit him with a bat after he spit at and threw garbage at her. Asked where the bat was, Green said her son took it from the home following the incident.
Green has been in prison before, a one-year stretch for selling cocaine. At the time of her September 2018 arrest, she had seven prior felony convictions.
