A Positive Step of Monroe County’s 2019 “Idle Hands Summer Youth Employment Program” wraps up for the year
Twenty Key West High School students who participated in the A Positive Step of Monroe County “Idle Hands Youth Employment Program” wrapped up summer jobs with the City of Key West this week.
Open to all KWHS students who seek summer work, the program was founded by Billy Davis and is led by KWHS substitute teacher/APSMC class instructor and job coach Danny Clark. Students began work on July 1 and filled a variety of paid positions with the City.
Each year since 2010 the City of Key West has provided $35,000 to help APSMC cover the cost of the student employee’s payroll; the 501(c)(3) non-profit organization raises the balance through fundraising efforts throughout the year. Three students over the past two years have come to work for the City as full time employee’s following their “Idle Hands” experience.
