Student Summer Idle Hands Program

A Positive Step Monroe County’s 2019 “Idle Hands Summer Youth Employment Program” about to launch

The program is open to students aged 16-18 with the exception of those graduating (or going to summer school in order to graduate) in 2019. Some of the job descriptions include administrative assistant, community service, and media department positions.

Approximately 25 students will be accepted into the program and will participate in a two-week job readiness orientation program held at the High School from 10:00am-2:00pm Monday, June 17, through Friday, June 28 (weekends excluded), led by KWHS substitute teacher/APSMC class instructor and job coach Danny Clark. Summer jobs with the City of Key West begin on July 1.

Bus passes will be provided for students attending the two-week orientation. Students must provide their own transportation to work.

Each year since 2010 the City of Key West has provided $35,000 to help APSMC cover the cost of the student employee’s payroll; APSMC raises the balance through fundraising efforts throughout the year, with significant support from the Key West Sunrise Rotary Club.

Employment application packets will be available at the Key West High School Plaza during lunch hours through Friday, May 10, to be returned to Danny Clark by Wednesday, May 15.
