A fuel tanker caught fire

A fuel tanker caught fire yesterday as it was traveling on the highway. The driver, who reported hearing an explosion just prior to the fire, pulled in to the Speedway gas station at the 99 mile marker of the highway in Key Largo. Deputies responded and evacuated the area. The fire was reported to Sheriff’s communications officers at 7:40 a.m. and was extinguished by firefighters, who reported the fire was out by 8:05 a.m.
