A “Dynamic” Duo Receives Honors As Principal and Dean of The Year at Gerald Adams Elementary

STOCK ISLAND, Fla. – Officials in the Monroe County School District announced Dr. Ann “Frannie” Herrin and Dr. Kyle Sheer from Gerald Adams Elementary as Principal of the Year, and Assistant Principal/Dean of the Year. The two administrators received the recognition after their peers and staff enthusiastically nominated them for the District award. It is rare for the Principal of the Year and Assistant Principal of the Year to come from the same school, however, officials say the two administrators at GAE deserved receiving the honor together because of their outstanding teamwork.

Addressing the staff when the awards were announced Tuesday afternoon, Superintendent Mark T. Porter said,

“What Frannie and Kyle are being recognized for is representative of the work that they do.  Leadership is a big part of that, and I think both of these people are providing great leadership here at Gerald Adams.

Dr. Sheer, Dean of GAE for three years shared his sentiments on receiving the award: “This recognition is very special to me, but the true champions of our school are the amazing teachers and support staff who work tirelessly to provide an unparalleled learning experience for our students. I feel lucky to be surrounded by such great educators who have supported me since day one.”

In the nominations, staff and administration stressed the amount of dedication to the students and their families the two promoted. They emphasized the commitment to serving the school’s community and providing the proper resources to students to help them continue to grow as learners, while aiding in keeping students safe and healthy.

Dr. Herrin, Principal of GAE for 15 years, and educator with MCSD for 29 years, said that what she and her team commits to doing every day for the students is truly a labor of love. She stated, “At Gerald Adams, we are a family that supports one another, but we work with one mission, and that is to educate our students and to prepare them for their futures, showing our students that they have amazing opportunities is at the core of all we do.”

The announcement comes just before the District’s Employee Recognition Banquet on May 19th, 2017 at Key Colony Inn in Marathon. For more information about the District, its mission and vision, visit www.keysschools.com.
