Rescue Tail / Holidays at the animal shelter

The Holiday season brings a whirlwind of emotions here at the animal shelter. The generosity of our community during the season of giving fills my heart with so much gratitude. Our community hosts Holiday donation drives and events all throughout the month of December to ensure that our homeless pets are showered with gifts, treats and toys to enjoy on Christmas day and throughout the rest of the year.

On the other hand, it’s impossible not to feel a touch of sadness for the animals at the shelter that spend the Holidays here instead of in a home. We believe that every pet deserves a family and the true wish for every animal here is to have a loving family to call their own.

Until then our staff and volunteers spend the Holidays at the shelter ensuring that each animal has a special day. Here at our Marathon Campus, it is tradition to line the hallway with all of the donated toys we’ve collected, and let each shelter dog pick whichever ones they want. Don’t worry, the cats, guinea pigs and rabbits are showered with gifts as well! Everyone gets a special meal, and a few too many treats too.

Currently there are 210 animals temporarily calling our Key West and Marathon Campus “home.” Dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, birds and even fish are patiently waiting day by day for someone just like you to come along and choose them. If you’re feeling like your home and heart are just a little empty, and that bringing an animal into your life is the right choice, then please be sure to check our shelters first. With Campuses in Key West and Marathon and serving all of the Middle and Lower Keys, we’re certain you’ll find the perfect pet for you.
