The Focus is on Fire at 18th Truman Legacy Symposium
The Key West Harry S. Truman Foundation is pleased to welcome and co-present the 18th Truman Legacy Symposium, Monday, Nov. 18, from 8:00am to 4:00pm, featuring a roster of notable presenters who will examine and discuss aspects of “President Truman’s commitment to fire prevention and its relevancy today.
Held at Key West’s Old City Hall, 510 Greene St., which was originally built and used as a fire station, speakers are to include national U.S. fire administrator Lori Moore-Merrell; National Fire Sprinkler Association president Shane Ray; National Fire Sprinkler Association vice president Vickie Pritchett; Harry S. Truman’s grandson, the actor, author and humanitarian Clifton Truman Daniel; retired Key West fire marshal Alex Vega; presidential historian Bob Wolz and others.
In 1947, President Harry S. Truman convened a “National Conference on Fire Prevention” to raise awareness of the devastating toll that a rapidly increasing number of preventable fires were taking on the nation, and to develop and launch a united strategy of fire prevention methods for country-wide implementation. That legacy has continued to expand to meet modern challenges through the efforts and achievements of numerous agencies and organizations across the country, some of which will be represented at the symposium.
Symposium tickets include a continental breakfast and lunch at Alonso’s Oyster Bar restaurant. Attendees as well as non-attendees can also purchase tickets to a catered symposium dinner to be held from 6:00 to 8:00pm on the grounds of the Harry S. Truman Little White House, 111 Front St. Key West.
On Tuesday, Nov. 19, a live performance of “Give ‘Em Hell, Harry!” will be presented as a symposium companion event, staged on the grounds of the Harry S. Truman Little White House. Written by Samuel Gallu, the long running and highly acclaimed stage production spotlights the life and presidency of 33rd U.S. President Harry S. Truman, with Truman’s grandson, actor Clifton Truman Daniel starring in the one man show.
2024 Truman Legacy Symposium events are presented by The Key West Harry S. Truman Foundation, the Harry S.
