Monroe County School District Appoints New Head Start/VPK Director
Key West, FL, — Monroe County School District, a leading provider of early childhood education, is proud to announce the appointment of Jennifer Walker as the new Head Start/Voluntary Pre-K (VPK) Director. In this role, Walker will oversee all aspects of the Head Start and VPK programs, ensuring that the organization continues its mission of providing comprehensive early childhood education, health, and family support services to the community’s most vulnerable children and families. Walker will take over for Marla Russell who will be retiring in December.

With over ten years of experience in early childhood education and leadership, Walker brings a wealth of knowledge and a deep commitment to fostering a nurturing and supportive learning environment for young children. Walker holds a Master’s Degree in Reading from Barry University and has previously held the Education Manager position at Monroe County School District’s Head Start/VPK Programs.

As the new Head Start/VPK Director, Walker will focus on enhancing the program’s curriculum, expanding family engagement, and ensuring that every child receives high-quality care and education. She will also lead efforts to build strong partnerships and education for families with limited English proficiency. She is passionate about ensuring that all children, regardless of their background, have access to the educational resources they need to thrive.
