POTENTIAL TROPICAL CYCLONE 4: KEY MESSAGES FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE – KEY WEST AND UPDATES FROM MONROE COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT
MONROE COUNTY, FL – Monroe County Emergency Management is coordinating with the National Weather Service – Key West to advise residents on specific details regarding potential Tropical Cyclone 4.
From the National Weather Service – Key West: A tropical storm watch and coastal flood watch has been issued for the Florida Keys, meaning tropical storm-force winds and flooding may occur this weekend on Saturday and Sunday.
- No government office closures have been announced.
- Airports are open and fully operational.
- Garbage service will not be interrupted on Saturday, although, depending on weather conditions, it may be later than regular pickup times.
- Bus service will remain ongoing, although there may be some delays.
- Liveaboard boaters in city mooring fields have been made aware of potential impacts.
Any preparations should be completed tonight to secure loose outdoor items.
Potential impacts include:
- Downed tree limbs
- Isolated power outages
- Heavy wave action and overwash of seawalls, docks, and oceanfront streets
- Flooding rain
- The threat of a tornado or two in rain squalls
- Residents and visitors should avoid driving in squally weather due to limited visibility.
Remember to review your tropical cyclone preparedness plans and ensure your emergency supply kit is well-stocked, as this could be the start of a busy hurricane season.
