Liveaboard charged with battery

A 32-year-old Boot Key Harbor liveaboard in Marathon, Florida, was arrested Wednesday for throwing a hatchet through another vessel’s window while the victim was inside. There were no reported serious injuries.

Bertil James Haney was charged with aggravated battery, throwing a deadly missile into an occupied vessel, and criminal mischief.

Haney rowed his dinghy to the victim’s vessel at approximately 11 p.m., threw a hatchet through one of the victim’s vessel windows, and hit another window with an oar. The victim stated the hatchet nearly hit him while he was inside the vessel.

Two witnesses corroborated the victim’s version of events and Haney was subsequently arrested.
