Jury Conviction in White Street Assault and Criminal Mischief Case
The Office of the Monroe State Attorney is pleased to announce the conviction and sentencing of Tauras Hines following a jury trial for charges related to an assault and property damage incident that occurred in the 300 block of White Street in Key West.
On November 2, 2023, Key West Police responded to an emergency call after a female victim reported an assault at her residence. Tauras Hines was identified by witnesses at the scene and was accused of physically assaulting a female victim and destroying her cell phone. Moments before police arrived, Mr. Hines fled the scene but was quickly apprehended on College Road by deputies from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
The trial was held before Judge Mark Wilson, where the jury found Mr. Hines guilty of Battery and Criminal Mischief. Judge Wilson sentenced Mr. Hines to 120 days in the county jail, followed by 12 months of probation for each count, to be served consecutively. Additionally, Mr. Hines is required to pay $3,281.96 in court costs and fines and $1,274.86 in restitution for medical bills and the destroyed cell phone to the victim.
