While I am a big supporter of Jim Scholl as City Manager and I agree with his conclusion, based on everything in Today’s World! I hope he stays around for awhile and makes the necessary cuts in the excess and waste spending, especially in the city payrolls! There are WAY too many Chiefs, supervising small staffs!
BUT, being an old guy that has already lived through many “recessions, down turns or whatever” in the US Economy. Things that are beyond control of the City, County, State & Federal Governments. In fact many were actually created by the Governments. The latest being the 2008 crash of the Home Mortgages. Many Boom and Busts in the Stock Markets over the years.
Born in 1946, I am at the beginning of the Baby Boomers” and the end of WWII. I have seen the US go from “we the people” basically having having nothing. But, having the ability to make of yourself what ever you was willing to work for to what is now a “Welfare State,” called a “Service Economy” by those that exported all the good paying jobs to foreign countries. ALL those Governments that do not worry about noy having money. If there is a short fall or they need more money, just raise one of the many taxes.
Let;s cut spending! Let’s not just balance the Budget, let;s create a Surplus for hard times. In other words, let’s run The City of Key West like a Business.
